What Is a Quatrefoil Bracelet? A Guide to the Four-Lobed Motif

See what quatrefoil means, how Katia’s four-petal motifs repeat along its chain, and which dimensions and fastening details to compare.

A quatrefoil bracelet uses a decorative four-lobed outline. The word describes the motif’s outline, rather than a particular metal, stone or fastening. When comparing designs, look at the four-part shape first, then check how it is arranged along the bracelet.

What does quatrefoil mean?

Getty’s Art & Architecture Thesaurus defines quatrefoils as figures with four equal lobes separated by cusps. The National Gallery’s glossary also describes the four-leaved form in architectural ornament. On Katia, the pictured four-petal arrangement gives the motif its flower-like appearance.

The name helps identify a shape; it does not tell you that every bracelet using it has the same proportions, decoration or construction. A single centre motif and several spaced motifs can give a different overall arrangement even when both are described as quatrefoils.

Look closely at Katia’s four-petal motifs

The Katia Quatrefoil Bracelet uses spaced four-petal motifs with clear accents. In the Gold close-up, the lobed outline frames the decorative centre, while fine chain connects one motif to the next.

Katia’s close-up shows the four rounded parts of each motif and the chain between them. Gold is pictured.

Katia’s current specifications name white zirconia accents. Read that separately from “quatrefoil”: the shape name alone does not establish the material in the centre, and a clear accent should not be assumed to be a diamond.

Compare one motif with the complete bracelet

The full product view shows how the repeated shapes are distributed along the chain. Compare the spacing, the amount of visible chain and the number of motifs shown, as well as the outline of one individual detail.

Five motifs are visible in this approved Katia product view, with a clasp and extension chain at the ends.

Katia currently lists approximate motifs of 7–8 mm across, a 1.4 mm chain width and a 16 cm length plus a 4–5 cm extender. These measurements describe different parts of the bracelet. The photographs show its design and construction, rather than a calibrated size comparison.

Is a quatrefoil the same as a clover?

A four-lobed ornament can resemble a stylised clover, but the two terms need not answer the same question. Here, quatrefoil identifies a decorative outline. A clover can also carry personal or traditional associations. Our clover necklace meaning guide discusses those associations separately; the shape does not promise good fortune or prescribe what it must mean to you.

Before choosing a quatrefoil bracelet

Start with the motif and spacing you prefer, then check the exact bracelet’s dimensions, finish and closure. Katia currently lists Gold and Silver options and a lobster clasp. Our clasp and extender guide explains that fastening, while the bracelet size guide covers wrist measurement and fit comparisons.
