How to Read Cuff Bracelet Measurements

Understand inner oval, opening and band width with Belen and Imogen examples, then compare the same measurements before choosing a cuff.

Cuff bracelet measurements can describe three separate parts of a piece: the space inside its curve, the gap between its ends and the width of the band. Keep those labels with their numbers. An opening measurement is not a wrist circumference, and band width does not tell you the size of the space inside.

Inner oval: the space enclosed by the cuff

An “inner oval” measurement gives two dimensions across the inside of an oval-shaped cuff. It describes the space within the shaped piece, rather than a length measured around your wrist.

The Belen Cala Cuff currently lists an approximate inner oval of 54 × 60 mm. That is 5.4 × 6 cm. Keep both numbers together: they describe different directions across an oval, rather than two selectable sizes.

Belen’s shaped inner space and open ends are different parts of the cuff. The listing gives an approximate 54 × 60 mm inner oval and a 25 mm opening.

The product photograph shows the shape, but it is not a life-size measuring template. The listing does not label those two inner-oval directions as width and depth, so ask about orientation if that distinction affects your comparison.

Opening: the gap between the ends

The opening describes the gap in the cuff, rather than the full space inside its curve. Belen lists an approximate 25 mm opening, equivalent to 2.5 cm. Do not read that as a 2.5 cm bracelet length or add it to the 54 × 60 mm figures to calculate a wrist size.

These are separate measurements in cuff sizing: for example, jewellery maker Gerda Goosen’s cuff guide lists inside diameter and cuff opening separately. That maker’s size chart applies to its own designs; it does not establish a Reef & Rose size conversion.

Band width: the metal strip itself

The Imogen Hammered Cuff currently lists an approximate 3–4 mm band width and a 22–26 mm opening. The smaller figure describes the band across its surface; the larger one describes the gap between the ends.

Imogen’s listing separates band width, approximately 3–4 mm, from opening, approximately 22–26 mm. Gold is pictured.

The opening range is the listing’s approximate dimension, not a set of selectable wrist sizes or permission to bend the piece to those settings. The current listing does not give an inner-oval measurement for Imogen, so its opening alone cannot establish whether its inner space is larger or smaller than Belen’s.

Compare the same dimension on each design

  • Inner oval against inner oval: compare the space within each shaped piece, keeping both directions and units.
  • Opening against opening: compare the gap descriptions without treating them as total bracelet lengths.
  • Band width against band width: compare the surface profile. For flexible-chain examples, see our bracelet width guide.

A smaller opening number does not by itself make a cuff a smaller wrist size. Nor does a wider band establish a different inner fit. If you have a cuff that fits well, its corresponding measurements can be a useful personal reference, provided you compare the same parts.

Check fit before choosing a cuff

Use our bracelet size guide for taking a wrist measurement; keep that circumference separate from the cuff’s inside dimensions and opening. If a needed dimension or fit detail is missing, contact our team before ordering. Do not assume an open cuff is adjustable simply because it has a gap.

Belen and Imogen currently offer Gold and Silver options. View each design’s current dimensions and gallery, or browse bracelets and cuffs. For the broader choice between a shaped piece and a flexible chain, read Bangle vs Bracelet.
