How to Pack Jewellery for Travel

Choose a small jewellery edit, pack each piece separately and keep necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings easy to find on your trip.

Before a trip, decide which pieces you are likely to wear and give each one a separate place in your bag. A short packing routine makes jewellery easier to find when you arrive and helps keep loose chains, earrings and rings from getting mixed together.

Choose a small travel edit

Look at the outfits and plans you already have. Choose a few pieces that suit more than one of them, then leave out the extras you are unlikely to wear. A simple starting point is one necklace, one pair of earrings, and one or two other pieces you already enjoy wearing.

For example, the current product pages list the Alara Pearl Necklace at approximately 45 cm plus a 5 cm extender, and the Adira Layered Necklace at approximately 40/45 cm plus a 5 cm extender. Check the selected design, finish and current measurements on each product page before choosing. Product photographs are style references, not size comparisons.

If you want ideas for wearing several necklaces together, see our necklace-layering guide. For bracelet combinations, use the bracelet-stacking guide.

Pack each piece separately

A divided jewellery case is one option. Individual pouches can also give each piece its own place. Avoid putting loose chains, earrings, rings and bracelets together in one pocket.

Necklaces

Fasten a necklace before putting it away and store it by itself in a separate pouch or channel. Keeping chains apart makes them easier to unpack and helps reduce tangles. Do not wind several loose chains together.

Earrings

Keep each pair together and secure the backs before packing. Put the pair in a separate compartment or pouch so it is easy to find.

Bracelets and rings

Give bracelets and rings their own spaces rather than piling them together. If you are bringing a bracelet stack, keep the group together but separate from loose chains and earrings.

Choose one place to unpack

When you arrive, put your case or pouches in one place. Return each piece after wearing it, then check that spot before you leave or pack to go home. A consistent routine makes it easier to keep track of the pieces you brought.

Check care notes before you travel

If your plans include saltwater, sand, sunscreen or other products, read our Materials & Care guide and the care information for the specific piece. This article is about packing and organisation; follow the product-specific guidance for care.

Frequently asked questions

How do I pack necklaces so they do not tangle?

Fasten each necklace and store it by itself in a pouch or separate channel. Keeping chains apart helps reduce tangles. For advice on wearing several necklaces together, see our necklace-layering guide.

Do I need a jewellery travel case?

No special case is required for this approach. Use a case with separate sections or individual pouches so each piece has its own place.

How should I pack earrings?

Keep each pair together, secure the backs, and place the pair in its own section or pouch.

What should I check before packing?

Review the current product-page measurements and care notes for the pieces you plan to take. For component-specific care, use our Materials & Care guide.

How should I pack valuable jewellery for a trip?

If you decide to bring a valuable piece, keep it close and check your travel-insurance policy before you go. Smartraveller notes that valuables checked in on an airline may not be covered and unattended items may be excluded. Check your policy's item limits and exclusions, including whether you need to specify the piece.
